Have had a lovely visit from my sister-in-law
this week, which I enjoyed immensely…
Baking for a Christmas party tonight
so time is limited but while the oven is doing all the work
I couldn't resist posting some photos
from this morning's sky…
with any luck I will be back with another post for

The ground is covered with snow and I have company this week
so pulling this shot from the archives…

Having a great week with my sister-in-law
who is like a best friend and sister rolled into one!
She is down visiting for a week after a year filled with
market gardening and working as a cook at a kid's camp.
Her story is fodder for another blog post...
besides being a great wealth of knowledge of all things growing,
she was likely the person who
influenced me most when it came to gardening…
It is possible that without her, many of my floral photos may not ever have existed.
In addition she is a great shopping companion
(we both dislike shopping)
and a wonderful confidant and sounding board!
She also kept my parents company
and helped them out tremendously before they passed away
I am always grateful for her!

Let's hear it for awesome sisters-in-law!

A New Era

I am a little late this week as I had company and
Not sure where this post will lead…
 this is my "Friday Find"

My parents bought 100 acres of forest in rural Ontario
back in the summer of 1969.
They eventually built a home and moved there
when my Dad retired, at the age of 53, in November 1982

This was the view from their beach
of the bridge across the Burnt River that leads up to their driveway.
This lovely tree was smaller and relatively straight when they bought the land.
My mother loved that tree…
There are many older photos of it that she took over the years, which I need to scan,
but this is the oldest one I have on my drive.

a closer winter shot from the same year
Dec. 29, 2007

The following fall
Sept. 21, 2008
As you may have noticed, the tree is gradually leaning
more and more towards the river

The photo below was taken his summer,
while I was up clearing out my parent's home and getting it ready to sell.
Earlier this year, on what would have been their 64th anniversary
and in accordance with their final wishes,
the entire family (all 16 of us!) stood on that bridge
and scattered their combined ashes over the river and the property...

Through a very fortunate set of circumstances,
my son, made it possible to keep the home in the family...
He bought it to be used as a cottage for everyone!
This photo was taken when we all gathered for our Canadian Thanksgiving
as we have often done over the years…
Mom and Dad were there is spirit!
Oct 12, 2013

This past week, my son sent this photo below from his phone…
Taken on the morning of the day the deal closed on the home sale...
Nov. 18, 2013
A smaller new tree was behind it…
and a new era begins…

More company for next week but will try to get a few posts up if possible!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
