{Withering Beauty} 52 photos project yr2 wk23 & photo art friday

"In the decay lies beauty."
and Bella, of 52 Photos Project fame,  invited us to look for it
in our surroundings this week.

Meanwhile, over at Photo Art Friday, Bonnie has invited us
to be aware of abstractions in nature this week
and the beauty they provide...

...and I was delighted to find a 'mysterious' little treasure on my deck railing
that worked for both prompts!

The mystery is not in the 'what'
but in the 'how'

The 'what' is a seed pod from one of my poppies,
which grow in front of my house and at the side near the front...
The mystery is how it got from one of those two places
to the railing of my back deck
in such perfect condition!!

These first two shots are SOOC

Then I started applying some of Bonnie's textures that I have been wanting to use...

pdpa Age It

pdpa Other World

and finally pdpa Ancient Treasures

Which is your favourite?

Though I am not sure HOW it got there without damage...
I know I am happy to have had such a treasure placed before me!

Wishing you all a wonderful fall weekend!

snapshot & a song - 25.9.12

Running a little late this week!
I hope "better late than never" applies here in the blogosphere!

Today
it is warm and sunny outside...
yet fall is in the air!

This shot, of the very last clematis flower clinging to the vine
brought to mind a song from many years ago.
I love both the music and the lyrics
For some, perhaps strange, reason I always associate this song with fall.
I have no idea when it was released.
It was written by Randy Sparks and performed by John Denver

...and I haven't been able to stop singing it since I saw that clematis!!
(another earworm!!)

Today

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrow shall all pass away, 'ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.
I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover, you'll know who I am by the songs that I sing.
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover, who cares what tomorrow shall bring?

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrow shall all pass away, 'ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.
I can't be contented with yesterday's glory, I can't live on promises winter to spring.
Today is my moment, now is my story, I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing.

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrow shall all pass away, 'ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.

macro monday 24.9.12

Just got back from a trip to Haliburton, Ontario
where the fall colours are definitely advanced further than at home!

As we went over the bridge that crosses the river that Mom's place is on,
we spotted a great blue heron standing on a sand bar!!
The Mister quickly pulled over as I pulled out my camera
but as I crossed the bridge it took off up into the trees.
Disappointed about the missed shot, I headed back to the car
only to come upon this little fella racing across the road!

I felt better that I had at least gotten something to show!!
More fall photos to come through this week...

Meanwhile...
Posting to Macro Monday!
Check out the awesome posts for this week!

{Season's Beginning} 52 photos project yr2 wk22

Bella, of 52 Photos Project
has invited us to share photos of the season change where we are.

Here in Southernish Ontario
fall is just on the edge of beginning to show it's colours...
There are only one or two trees visible from my home
that have turned...
Yet, there are other signs that autumn is about to
be upon us...

The Rose of Sharon is still producing new blooms,
though they quickly wilt with the lower temperatures at night.

But for one clematis that is still clinging to the vine,
the rest have put on their fuzzy fall sweaters

The irises (iris'? irii?) are dropping their seeds for next years growth

...both the yellow ones in the pond as well as the (once) blue ones in the front garden

..and as some flowers are beginning to fade

others are just blooming to give the garden
that last burst of colour before the frost
and the flying snow...

I hope to be taking off into the air over the next few weeks
to capture some fall colour shots from above.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
